Is technology good for social relationships and society?

thanks for your input. it is appreciated. Is technology good for social relationships and society?
Technology is, i believe, one of the factors responsible for the social decline in today's world.

How is sitting infront of a tv for hours, or playing computer games healthy! We should be interacting, in person, doing healthy activities, this is obvious, it's how we have developed over millions of years!

100 years of technology and we have generated all sorts of problems, global warming, rise of childhood disorders, pollution causing amongst other things respiritory problems, mass warfare, etc. At least before we couldn't actually destroy the whole globe, now we can do it in a variety of ways. This is a pretty damning social problem!

Entertainment TV, %26amp; Computer games are essentially an utter waste of time. Shamefully I partake in both...

These allow you to practice escapism without the drugs.

Their are far better forms of enterainment like a sport/hobby or meeting friends, etc, that involve actually talking to people and partaking in healthy activities.

I think we would be far better off without technology, we are meant to work the land, walk around alot, socialise with others in person and so on, not sit infront of a computer screen or a tv for hours on end. A lot of children are now growing up spending more time with the TV than with their parents! If you don't get practise at it, you won't improve so it is vital kids don't waste time on tv %26amp; computer games.

Technology also brings great benefit to social relationships, the fact I can answer your question is pretty good don't you think? Or hearing aids for hearing impaired, artificial limbs etc.

Advances in any field of study can be distributed much more effectively, reports for criminals can aid police forces, people in other countries can communicate with us,

We can store music for social occasions and change it for various effects, but I think this has reduced the overall ability of people to create their own music as seems to have occured in the past, as small communities all took part in creating the music for any festivities. This probably adds to reducing the amount of actual contact between people in a community.

A lot of communication is visual, so i don't think mobile phones and chat on the interent is better than face-to-face communication, and sadly it seems to replace a lot of it today rather than aid it to fill in the gaps.

In making the world smaller we have become further apart than ever, we all know the difference between people's friendliness in the city or out in the country. When you travel out to the country where technology doesn't have such a grip you find people are far more friendly and have time for you, this i suppose is good supporting evidence that technology doesn't aid social relationships and society in general.

You can get everything without leaving your own home, because the possibility is there some people do it; you can entertain yourself and live %26amp; provide for yourself in your own home. This certainly doesn't aid social relationships.

I've dribbled enough now...Is technology good for social relationships and society?
In my opinion i don't think it is god for society. I think it has made many people socially alone and abandoned. Instead of developing real interpersonal relationships people rely on the Internet and instant messaging to create a network of friends and that hurts them in the long run.
Anything used for the ';higher good'; will return that which is noble; anything used for wicked purposes will probably

bring wicked things back. Everything in moderation.

It opens up a new category: cyber-relationships. They will be good and bad just like the relationships we experience in the ';real world';
I THINK TECHNOLOGY IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST REASONS AMERICA IS THE FATTEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WE ARE GETTING LAZIER BY THE DAY AND WITH THE THINGS COMING OUT NOWADAYS I DON'T SEE ANY CHANGES FOR THE BETTER
